Drawings from the Wood
Why contemporary art sucks.

After flipping through Taschen’s «100 contemporary artists», I conclude I don’t like contemporary art. What is contemporary art anyway?
Wikipedia says: “Contemporary art can be defined variously as art produced at this present point in time or art produced since World War II.”
Well, that includes all that’s happening online these days. Everyday I stumble upon amazing stuff here on Tumblr, but still the contemporary art books and museums are full of fugly shit.
Also, in this book, they sometimes refer to science-fiction illustrators as if they don’t count.

Well, my opinion is, since they don’t want us in their «contemporary art» club, let’s invent a cool name to call our art. Any ideas?

One day I will stop posting random sketches and actually start posting substantial work again. Until then, have a slightly more realistic interpriation of Cinderella?
Oh yeah, there’s my childhood self still ‘eeeeee-ing’ at drawing Princesses. Poofy dresses, hell yes.

Since I don’t have the time to draw these days, at least I’ll reblog.
This is Howl, from Howl’s Moving Castle. Beautiful film, amazing book by Diana Wynne Jones who died a couple of months ago.
Great watercolour.
